The Beauty of Living Beings

I’ve always gravitated towards nature. I love to go to national parks, the beach, and I to live as close to nature as possible. While I was in college I had a few plants. I remember being scared of not being able to care for them, but I managed to do well with those that I had, but now everything’s changed. I have many plants. I love them, and it’s hard to resist the urge of getting more. And when we talk about Orchids, Oh my god, I lose my mind. But what has caused my obsession with plants in general? I’ve tried to figure that out for a while now. This morning I was watering my plants, and examining their progress, and in that moment the answer came to me…

Newborn little plant. ❤

My home is my place, that place where I can be myself, where I can be free, and I like to have it as nice, clean, and beautiful as possible. And plants are pure beauty–they bring in a natural beauty with them that it’s crazy amazing.

It’s a privilege to be able to see them expand. See how they grow, and how they express when they’re happy, or in need of something. Sometimes you need to be extra observant and sensitive to figure out what they’re asking for. As time passes by you get to know them more, and you start seeing how they grow, which to me is such an amazing thing.

The feeling of excitement and amazement I felt when I found these little green dots, which are new growths on my orchids, was incredible. But I also noticed something very interesting, when I’m with my plants my mind is blank, or only thinking about them, nothing else–it doesn’t matter what problem I might be having that day–at that moment only my plants matter. That’s a meditation state, which can only make you calmer, happier, and at ease.

We should try to find living beings with this calming quality to enhance our lives in a more positive way. Sometimes it’s hard to find that peacefulness in humans, but if plants, books, writing, and even coffee can bring us that joy, hey! why not be around them more.
